THE GIFT OV LIFE FERTILITY FUND
The cost of infertility as been well documented. Infertility is not only devastating, but it is financially challenging for many South Africans. By the time an infertile couple or individual reaches the stage where they need to use and egg donor in order to conceive, they have often exhausted every other resource.
The cost an IVF cycle varies, depending on individual requirements, but can cost in the region of R40 000 to R60 000. For more and more South Africans, requiring egg donation, the cost does not stop there.
The current recession has exacerbated the financial situation for many couples seeking IVF with an egg donor resulting in couples possibly having to abandon their efforts to create a family, given quite simply, a lack of financial resources to continue with the process.
The Gift ov life Fertility Fund operates assists in two ways:
1. The Gift ov life co-owners give R1 000 to the Fund for every Donor matched to a recipient - this fund is accumulated and when it reaches R50 000, a free IVF treatment, including a "free" donor, is offered to a deserving couple; and
2. The Gift ov life co-owners match 3 donors to recipients, free of the Gift ov life management fee, per annum.
The Gift ov life Fund was founded by the co-owners of Gift ov life, Tami Sussman and Dawn Blank. It operates by providing a limited number of egg donors, as chosen by recipients, where Gift ov life waives their R12 000 egg donor-matching fee. “In this way we are able to really help couples by providing them with a donor, of their choice, from our donor database,” says Tami Sussman. She adds “Between us, Dawn and myself have spent in excess of R200 000 in our own infertility journeys to conceive. We understand the costs involved only too well.”
Adds Dawn Blank, “the fund assists South Africans and the application process is simple."
She adds, “This Fund will be launched in August 2009 and we will evaluate applications as received, awarding donors to applicants, that will not attract any Gift ov life management fees from our agency. We hope to be able to give away at least 6 donors per annum, although this will depend on the applications received and the donors available on our database.”
"The fund also accumulates R1 000 for every donor matched via Gift ov life and in this way we can continually build up our IVF fund and give a deserving couple a real Gift ov life," says Dawn. "We will ask fertility clinics for assistance in identifying those most in need."
We want to be true to our name and help deserving recipients receive their potential Gift ov life, and have a family.
To qualify for consideration of our Gift ov life Fund, we require the following information from applicants:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must require the use of donor eggs in order to conceive and this must be verified by a fertility doctor
- An annual income of R240 000 should not be exceeded
- You must be able to demonstrate your financial qualifications by providing an official letter from your employer detailing your earnings or a certified statement that you are unemployed
- You are required to write to us and justify why you believe you are most deserving of a Gift ov life egg donor free of our charge
- You must also agree to have your and your child’s picture appear on our website, should you birth a child conceived as a result of this fund being awarded to you
Please be aware:
- Applications to include: your full name and that of your partner, if applicable; ID numbers, residential address, email contact and cell phone contact numbers.
- All applications must be sent via email or you must contact us at info@giftovlife.com to receive a physical address for delivery of your application.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- We will contact you within 10 days of receipt of your application to advise you on the status of your Application.
